Sylvia Maria Martha "Oma" Walter

Sharpsburg, MD – Sylvia Maria Martha “Oma” Walter, 85, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at her home.

She was born on October 19, 1937, in Germany (East Prussia) to the late Ernst Kammerhoff and Sylvia Lydia Wanda Pietsch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfried “Fred” Walter on March 23, 1988.  They were married on April 16, 1960.

Oma graduated from high school of Ploen, Germany and received an Associate of Art’s Degree in Business Management from Hagerstown Junior College.

She retired from Citicorp of Hagerstown, MD in 2004 and previously was employed with F&M Bank in Hagerstown, MD as Head Teller.

Oma was a 13 year Breast Cancer Survivor.

She was of the Lutheran Faith.

Oma loved her grandkids and enjoyed feeding and watching her birds.

She is survived by her daughters Claudia E. Banca of Hagerstown, MD and Kirsten C. Currin and her husband Michael of Sharpsburg, MD; sisters Ursula Jaeger of Germany and Karin Nesheim of Norway; grandchildren Chris (Annie), Michael, Anna, Frankie, Alex (Erin), Saverio (Amy), Zach, Chiara, and Elizabeth (Andrew); several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter Sylvia B. Stallsmith; granddaughter Katarina P.S. Stains; twin sister Elsa Krause; three brothers Ernst Kammerhoff, Udo Kammerhoff, and Wolfgang Kammerhoff.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. 

Chapel services will be held at Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery in Flintstone, MD on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kim Nunberg officiating.
