Tanya Sell Obituary

Tanya V. Sell, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, peacefully departed this world for heaven on February 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Tanya will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 22 years, Sean; her loving daughter, Ashleigh; her mother, Patricia Ann Light; her sister, Natalie Vetter; and numerous other family members and friends.

She is now joined in heaven with her father, Harlen Leroy Vetter.

Tanya was born and raised in Garrett County, Maryland.  She lived in Colorado and Arizona for a time but made her way back to Maryland to make a family home in Sharpsburg.  She received her paralegal certificate from the Arizona Paralegal Training Program and was awarded her bachelor’s degree in political science from Frostburg State University.

She had a rewarding career at Emergent BioSolutions in Gaithersburg, Maryland, that spanned two decades, where she was the company’s Intellectual Property Paralegal and managed the patents and trademarks portfolio.  In her career she was admired and respected by her colleagues for her dedication, unique skillset, attention to detail and willingness to help others.  Prior to her illness, Tanya fulfilled her entrepreneurial dream of owning a coffee shop when she designed and operated her coffee trailer, Dottie, under the business name of The Coffee Spot.

Tanya enjoyed hosting parties for her friends and family, and they were always memorable gatherings full of food and laughter.  She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and special.  She loved her four-legged family members as well – Polly, Tank and Bun Bun and spent time in the spring and summer tending to the garden.

Tanya’s Christian faith was an essential part of her life.  She was an active and dedicated member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, both in Sharpsburg.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Ashleigh, who will always remember her as a very supportive and loving mother.  She was loved and will be remembered by her family at Camp Luther.  She was loved by all that were blessed by knowing her.

Tanya deeply loved her family and friends and was always thinking of others.  She had a quick smile and a lending hand to offer and was always willing to help others in whatever way she could – even while battling her illness.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 209 W. Main Street Sharpsburg, MD on Friday February 23, 2024, at 11:00 am with Father Connor Newlun and Pastor Jim Riley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tanya’s memory online to the National Brain Tumor Society at:
