Victor Leon Conrad of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018.
Born August 15, 1940, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Wilson H. and Mayme (Gimmel) Conrad.
A 1958 graduate of Elkins High School, Conrad attended Davis and Elkins College in Elkins for one year before moving to Falls Church, VA. He was then employed by Sperry Rand Corporation in Washington, D.C., from 1959 to 1963.
In 1963, Conrad enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Thailand and Vietnam.
Upon his return from Vietnam in 1967, Conrad entered the University of Maryland and was graduated in 1972 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was then employed by Mack Trucks, Inc., in Hagerstown, MD, where he worked as a mechanical engineer until he retired in 2007 after 35 years of service.
Conrad was a longtime active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of the Greencastle Sportsmen’s Association in Greencastle, PA, and the Williamsport Red Men Lodge #84.
Conrad was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed collecting, restoring, and working on antique clocks.
In addition to his parents, Conrad was preceded in death by his only sister, A. Ellen (Conrad) Compton, of Huntington, WV.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Doris (Judy) Conrad, whom he married June 27, 1964, in Elkins, WV. He is also survived by two sons, Michael Sean Conrad of Nashville, TN, and Mark Andrew Conrad (wife, Rebecca) of Hagerstown; one daughter, Melissa Ann Conrad-Fortmann (husband, Gabriel) of Urbana, MD; five grandchildren, Mikayla Conrad, Finley Fortmann, Elias Fortmann, Lauren Conrad, and Aaron Conrad; and two step-grandchildren, Alexa Fortmann and Olivia Fortmann.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 South Conococheague Street, Williamsport, MD, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., with the Reverend Michael Henning officiating. The family will receive friends after the service until 9:00 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Interment will be in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Elkins, WV, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.
