Victor Thomas "Tom" Witmer

Victor Thomas “Tom” Witmer, 79, of Sharpsburg, MD entered the loving arms of His Lord and Savior Jesus on July 21, 2023 at Doey’s House Hagerstown, MD. 

He was born on December 25, 1943 in Sharpsburg, MD to the late Harry William and Carrie Edith (Turner) Witmer.

Tom was a 1961 graduate of Boonsboro High School in Boonsboro, MD.

For most of his work life he was in private and commercial construction as a master carpenter where his head for numbers and eye for precision and beauty flourished. Later, even with a disabling work injury he, at no charge, assisted many in the neighborhood with the design, improvement, and construction of their homes and buildings.

Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves there receiving a commendation for sharpshooter. Having a patriotic heart and leadership skills he was a lifetime member of many organizations including AMVETS Post 10, the NRA, and the American Legion where he served for many years as Post 236 Commander. He also was a lifetime member of Conococheague Sportsmen's Club where he was repeatedly elected to serve as President or on the Board of Directors. 

When health allowed he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. At one time he was an impressive weight lifter, marksman, and boxer. In later days, he adored Westerns and a relaxing game of Poker with his loving wife, Alice, of 57 years.

He is survived by his wife Alice Virginia (LaPole) Witmer; daughter Crystal Lynn Witmer both of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Virginia Kaetzel and husband Robert of Winter Haven, FL; especially helpful neighbor Rick Exline; and many cherished nieces, nephew, cousins, neighbors, friends, and cats.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Despite a long, hard fought battle with cancer he still kept his sly sense of humor and until the end he never stopped being concerned for “his girls” Alice and Crystal.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
