Hagerstown, MD – William Allen “Bill” Baker, 79, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his home.
He was born on April 6, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Robert Weaver and Mary Jane (Harbaugh) Murray.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Lynn Shingler (Baker) in 2021.
Bill was a 1961 graduate of South Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, MD.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Bill was employed with the Hagerstown Police Department for 26 years in the Narcotics Division as a Lieutenant. He was also employed with the Hagerstown Housing Authority after his retirement from the Police Department.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842 in Chambersburg, PA; Thomas Pangborn Lodge #88 Fraternal Order of Police; Veterans of Foreign Wars #6241 Mercersburg, PA; American Legion Dixon-Troxell Post #211 Funkstown, MD; IORM Tribe #84 of Williamsport, MD.
Bill was an avid camper and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son William “Billy” Baker and his wife Michelle of Indiana; daughter Kelly Shank and her husband Richard of Hagerstown, MD; son Daniel Kessler and his children of Hagerstown, MD; stepdaughter Brandi Pine and her wife Sherry of Mercersburg, PA; stepdaughter Ashley Lady and her husband Todd of Hagerstown, MD; brother Bobby Wilcher and his wife Kay of PA; grandchildren Rachel, Nicholas, Devyn, Colby, and Seth.
He was predeceased by his sister, Donna Louise Wilcher.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 12:00 (noon) on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. Todd Lady officiating. Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD.
