Zane Bernard Young

Hagerstown, Maryland-Zane Bernard Young, 79 of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday January 9, 2021 at his home in Hagerstown, MD.

Born on October 2, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD he was the son of the late Charles Cyrus and Frieda Mae Miller Young. 

He was a 1959 graduate of Williamsport High School after which he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He was proud of his service and considered it to be one of his life’s greatest achievements.

Zane worked at Western Electric (Lucent) for many years before changing careers.  He then went on to work as a salesman for Antietam Paper Company and eventually retiring from Holt Paper and Chemical Supplies.  He was known as the “Chemical Man”.

He was a member of American Legion Post #202 Williamsport, MD, Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD where he enjoyed friends and was very proud to help with the American Flags.  He was also a member of the End of the Trail Hunt Club in Pennsylvania.  He was always about more than the hunt, he was about time spent with family and good friends.  Zane was of the Christian faith.

Zane was always in attendance at his grandchildren’s games, whether it was soccer, baseball or a football game, he was there.

He is survived by the love of his life of 57 years Connie (Artz) Young, a son Joseph Young and his wife Kerri, grandson Wade Young and granddaughter Paige (Young) Schill and her husband Leo all of Keedysville, MD.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday January 14, 2021 from 6:00-8:00pm.  For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open Thursday at 9:00am.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 15, 2021 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Chaplain Katherine Lippy officiating.   Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD with full military honors provided by the Joint Veteran’s Council of Washinton County and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, MD.
