Dear Connie and family, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Woody and wish I could have attended the funeral. I enjoyed getting to know Woody later in life as he served as a Washington County Commissioner and appreciate his service to our community. Several people told me about Woody's past positive service as a teacher and coach where they indicated how he often made the extra effort to help people. I appreciate his good heart and know he will be missed. May God be with each of you as you mourn his loss and remember a great man.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Mr. Spong. He was my fifth grade teacher at Old Forge School many, many, years ago. He was such a caring teacher and funny one as well. I always remember when we needed to go to the bathroom, restroom, etc. he would make jokes and ask us if we were going there to take a bath or to rest or whatever. I had some medical problems during the year before and he was very understanding of my shyness and quiteness. He was a great man and I am so sorry for the loss you must be feeling but rest assured he was a great man and we will all be together one day again.

Dear Connie and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Woody's passing, Your slideshow presentation was wonderful in capturing what Woody loved and valued....his marriage, family, friends, career, dogs, and the outdoors. As a colleague, I learned a lot from Woody. He had a different way of looking at situations that had me rethinking about how I would respond in similar circumstances. I enjoyed his sense of humor. Woody will be missed by many. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Woody and I pledged together at Sigma Chi Fraternity at the Univ. of MD in the fall of '65. We were initiated at the same time at the end of that semester. We roomed together at the Sigma Chi house for a year. The best year of college for me, but the worst academically! We didn't call Woody "Woody" back then. He went by Vince or "Sponge" most of the time. I learned to call him Woody from his Hagerstown love, Connie. Woody gave me my fraternity nickname of "Granny", [Gee, thanks. Woody.] Woody was my closest fraternity brother. I'll miss you, Brother. In hoc,

Woody was an inspiration to the Bohn family. He was a marvelous swim team coach and family friend. To this day I don't know how all three Bohn brothers fit in his Austin Healy 3000 for a ride home. I also remember the time he visited us on vacation in Fenwick Island, DE. His friend, who was working as a Police Officer in Ocean City for the summer, brought a 12 person raft for all of us to use. I don't think we ever laughed so hard as that day. While we went our separate ways over the years the great memories remain. Connie, thanks for sharing Woody!

Dear Connie and Sally,
Although I met Woodie some years before,I really came to appreciate his friendship, humor and love of his family during our conversations during the millennial year of Leadership Hagerstown. As a member and graduate of that class, I saw him organize ,lead and bring together a group of people from varied backgrounds with ease and expertise.
Stories about his family and his labs were always in every conversation. I respected his easy and comfortable personal warmth and I always thought he was a good man, solid in character and faith. I will be one of many who will miss Woodie and are thankful that our lives crossed paths. My sincere condolences and prayers to you and all of his family.
Blessings and Love,
Vaughn Crowl

I met Mr. Spong at Salem Ave Elementary School where he was the principal and I was a young student. He influenced my throughout the rest of my life, first as an educator, but rapidly became a positive male influence that my life was lacking at the time. As time went on Woody became a father figure and a hero to me. He was one of the greatest men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and his legacy and influence on my life will be with me forever. Connie, Sally, Katie Mae and everyone else that I met because of Woody's kindness and generosity always made me feel like part of their family. A family that I will always be thankful for and always consider to be my second family. I love you all.

Dear Connie and Sally;

Woody was a wonderful friend to so many. I first learned to know Woody when I was teaching second grade at Salem Avenue years ago. Within two years of my arrival, I left to pursue administration. Woody was a significant mentor in my life and over my career. If ever I needed perspective, a good laugh, or just some common sense advice, Woody was my go-to person!

My sincere sympathies to you and your family. Woody frequently spoke of both of you, as well as his granddaughter Katie. You were all the light of his life--along with his canine companions! He left a solid mark of goodness and truth on this earth; and I have no doubt his words of wisdom will follow and guide all of us. Thank you both for sharing Woody with us over time.

Blessings to you both!

Dear Connie and Sally,
It was with great sadness that I learned about your loss.. Like so many others, I held Woody in high regard. I knew him as an educator who was respected and liked by his teachers and a principal who showed caring for his students. I also knew him as your Dad, Sally, beginning when you were my sweet little student. There was never a time that I saw him , after the year you were in my class, that he did not take the opportunity to talk about you. He loved you so much and was so proud of you. I would like to be there to give you my condolences in person. Unfortunately, I am in Myrtle Beach and cannot attend. I will keep you in my heart and hope that after a bit of the pain subsides that you will find comfort in your good memories.

Thank you, Mrs. Bohman. That was very kind, and I'm not going to lie, brought a few tears. Thank you for thinking of us.

I met Woody through Pat Nolan. That was over 25 years ago while Pat was training woody's dog Josie. That introduction led to a friendship that included sharing hotel rooms to save some money. Long talks on politics and the war against Northern Aggression as he jokingly put it. How proud he was when his school was recognized nationally as a Blur Ribbon School. We constantly traded phone calls when the battle for the top of the NFC East was at stake. I'll miss those as much as the good natured ribbing that came from Woody's quick witted mind. Most of all I'll miss his friendship. Thank You Pat Nolan for a great introduction to a great man.

Sending warm thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of knowing Vince as a Sigma Chi brother.
We shared many times together. Many I will never forget.
Thoughtful, supportive and caring are the qualities I remember most about "Woody".
He was not self-centered, never a "show-off" and always thinking of others.
Someone you could always trust, share your feelings with and confide in.

I see he stayed true to these throughout his life.

Thank you Vince...for being a part of my life.
Rest in peace.
I will see you again, one day.
Your bother.
